Got a 1.75" thick hard maple cutting board recently. It's face grain, a single piece of wood.
When I got the board I coated it with an extra application of board balm (oil+wax). I've only used it twice, washed with warm water and Dawn blue soap, then let it dry overnight by hanging it & applied board balm again. Now I'm seeing these "stains" on both edges of the board.
Probably only cosmetic, but I am still curious as I'd like to avoid making it worse. What the hell did I do wrong that caused these marks to appear?
