Is it unhigenic to keep a cutting board near a dog?

Hi everyone I was hoping someone could help me with a question.

I recently got a new table for my endgrain walnut board. I've fenced it off but it is quite close to where my dog eats and drinks. He' can get really close to sniff etc.. but can't actually physically touch it.

Is this a hygiene risk? Is it better to have a larger distance between? If I disinfect the board regularly will this be ok?
