My mother expressed nostalgia for her mother's latkes, which she always made with the coarse attachment of a meat grinder, so there were little lumps rather than long shreds. I don't think I've seen anybody else do that since. The potatoes are always shredded by everyone I know, but it does make them more like hash browns. Anybody out there using a meat grinder on their potatoes?
