Hi there! I've been gifted a piece of parmesano reggiano (about 2lbs). Only catch - it was used as an 'ice luge' for shots at a party (don't ask). It's seen some vodka, gin, some mouths and plenty of hands.
My instincts are telling me to trash it but since it's a hard cheese and goes for a pretty penny, i'm here to ask: can I just shave/grate off the exterior and consider this still sanitary/safe to eat? What would you do?
