Freezing cream cheese?

I like to make ice cream and the recipes I've been using call for a bit of cream cheese blended with the base. I've had some in the fridge for about 3 weeks, and it still seems good but I am starting to get concerned how much longer it will last.

Can I freeze cream cheese, or will it affect my ice cream when I thaw it out and blend it with the base? How long does cream cheese usually last in your experience?
