Using left over chicken marinade

I'm in the middle of this, friends are in a half heated debate, and I come here for answers to set things straight.

From what we're reading, rule of thumb is to boil the left over marinade for 5 minutes to kill off bacteria, if we want to use it for sauces, etc.

Now, what if we use it as we're BBQing:

Would the heat on the grills kill off the bacteria as it's cooking?

Or let's say you don't cook it well enough, and end up getting people sick. And that's why boiling the left overs makes it safer.

Thanks in advance!
