Is it possible to use a blender to make carrot soup, instead of hob cooking?

I want to recreate a simple old family recipe for carrot, parsnip and onion soup, in time for Christmas. Unfortunately most sources say I need to hob cook, and I don't have access to that! I do however have a blender. I'm not sure if it would be possible to cook the veg separately to soften it up, and then blend it into the soup, or if I need to worry about any other steps? Also if it would be safe to reheat the results after blending?
