How do I make restaurant style French toast?

It’s my boyfriends favorite breakfast and tomorrow is his birthday so I want to make some French toast for breakfast. What are some of you best tips and tricks, favorite recipes or tried and true methods for good French toast?

He’s been the French toast maker in the relationship so I’m not sure what he does exactly to produce his mediocre breakfast but I know he uses heavy cream and only egg yolks, and soaks the bread for basically ever. He hasn’t been open to suggestion so I’m going to just take over the French toast making and I want to prove to him there’s better ways.
