I thought I'd try whipping some cream by hand in a stainless mixing bowl with a stainless whisk. I filled the sink with a bit of ice water, put my mixing bowl in and added cream. I whipped it by hand for probably a good few minutes, near the end adding a bit of vanilla and powdered sugar.
At some point I noticed some dark specs in my cream - I thought it was just from the vanilla but I got some of it out and it was a grey paste that kind of just smeared when I rubbed it between my fingers. Looked on my whisk and this paste was quite built up on some of the loops.
Is my equipment (linked above) cheaper than I expected or is this kind of thing normal after pretty aggressively hand whipping for ~3 min? Any thoughts welcome
