How do I properly store ghee for long term storage?

I have a 5 gallon bucket of ghee that is new and sealed still. I would like to divide this into glass jars which I plan on storing in my cool dark basement. My concern is that I would be shortening the lifespan of the ghee by opening the original seal, is this worry valid and if so are there and steps I can take to help make my ghee last longer without using a freezer? I'd like it to last 24 months if possible
