Is making corned beef from scratch worth the effort?

I know I'm probably too late for this year anyway (eating on Saturday) ....

But I'm curious if brining corned beef yourself is actually worth it vs buying one in a bag already at the grocery store. I did it from scratch once and didn't notice any difference in flavor, but I might have just done it poorly.

I sous vide the meat to cook it if that matters.
