Slow cooking a pork shoulder. HELP!?

Okay so I've got a pork shoulder roast in the slow cooker it's been in for a couple hours. Theres nothing else with the roast like carrots or potatoes. She said once it's ready just pull it apart with some forks my main question is do I do it in the slow cooker or do i remove it to pull it apart. Theres water, seasonings and a bunch of sliced garlic in the slow cooker with the roast. No sauce though. Any advice on what to do would be greatly appreciated
