White wine fire??

Pretty sure I almost killed myself accidentally. I was searing chicken on the stove with olive oil and seasoning, took the chicken off the stove, lowered the heat, and poured half cup white wine into the pan when it all went up in flames. I stood less than two feet away from this pan which had flames going on at least 6 feet high. It got so hot up there that a light fixture came crashing down to my left. What happened?? I thought white wine wasn’t supposed to catch fire like that? What I can do to avoid this next time?
