My donuts were too sticky to work with and I had to throw them away. What could I have done?

I made donuts so sticky that they just wouldn't come off my parchment paper. I know I should've just added more flour before putting them out to rise, but ya know hindsight. Anyways, is there any special technique for getting really sticky dough from the place it was rising to a deep fryer?
