Why does some food burn the back of your throat specifically?

I tried googling this and I can't seem to figure out how to do so without getting results about heartburn, explicitly not what I'm referring to here.

I just made something like a chicken chili, and I'd say moderate heat. Mostly just some cayenne and mild green chiles. However, this stuff burns the back of my throat fairly intensely and I have no idea why. I did squeeze a whole lime into it, so could it be from acid? But it doesn't taste super acidic on the whole. I'm wondering if there are specific compounds that hit your throat more perhaps?
