I have a cephalopod conundrum.

I found this (https://www.walmart.com/ip/Pampa-Giant-Calamari-in-Garlic-Sauce-4-oz-Box/22123826), curiously labeled "calamari," despite the photo on the box appearing to be octopus. I looked at the ingredients, which listed dosidicus gigas (Humboldt squid), and thought maybe someone dropped the ball in packaging design. I figured I'd get it home and open it to find, well, calamari.

Instead, what's inside looks just like octopus, tastes like octopus, and has the texture of octopus. I grew up next to the ocean and am familiar with both.

For example, it looked like this (https://www.donostiafoods.com/collections/spanish-tinned-seafood/products/octopus-pulpo), not like this (https://www.donostiafoods.com/collections/spanish-tinned-seafood/products/small-squid-in-olive-oil)

What am I missing here?

I did some research and apparently there is "octopus style" canned calamari, which..... what? why? How would they even get calamari to resemble octopus so, SO much both visually and texturally?

Someone who has more experience with canned squid/octopus....help.
