Why do Americans have so many prepared fresh produce options in supermarkets?

I appreciate convenient ingredients to cook with - I’m a student working part-time, I get it! I buy most of my fresh produce in supermarkets as it’s the most affordable, but I always wash and prepare them myself where necessary.

Bare with me, I’ve never been to America but a good amount of my following on Instagram are American. Just based of Instagram stories and vlogs, I’ve seen people use these items:

  • Peeled garlic cloves in a container
  • Diced red onions in a container
  • Pourable egg whites in a carton
  • Pre-washed and shredded lettuce
  • Squeezable avocado in a tube

Do any of these not pose a higher health risk? I just find it strange because even when I’m short on time, I would still never buy these items personally.
