Black Truffle, I am doing it wrong ?

Every couple of year, for Christmas I buy some good black truffles from a reputable shop that also services some of the better restaurant in town.

Every time I feel I am doing them wrong; I feel that I'm loosing a lot of the flavours and mostly smell of the truffles.

I've made scrambled eggs with grated truffle (eggs, butter, a little bit of cream)

I've made pasta with truffles (see image); chopped the truffles and mix them with the pasta (and butter and some parmesan (added later) and sliced some over the top.

I both cases, I'm missing something that would make the dish better.

What Am I missing ?
