How do you all get candy melts super smooth and molten?

I swear I'm not an idiot lol but how do you all get that silky smooth candy melt texture for cake pops? When i try to melt candy melts, they just seem to get to this gritty pasty consistency... what am I doing wrong ? Anyone has any advice or technique that I can use?
