Can I thaw meat in the fridge after sell by date?

So, since I only cook for myself I usually buy enough meat to last a week. So, what I do is put some of it in the freezer. I usually thaw using the water method, but I was wondering if it's safe to thaw in the freezer even. I know it is safe to put meat in the freezer after before the sell by date and have it in there for weeks, I just want to know is it safe to thaw in the fridge overnight or for a day?
