Carolina Sugar and Pepper Pie?

I’m doing some research for a recipe I’m creating, and while looking through the Time Life cookbook series and found this recipe:

1 partially baked pie shell 2 cups dark brown sugar 1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper ~ salt 1 tbsp. Sifted flour 2 eggs 2 tbsp. butter, melted 1/4 cup dark corn syrup 2 tbsp. vanilla extract 2 cups heavy cream 1 cup whipped cream

I tried to look online for anything about the dish or the history behind it. I’ll post an update after I try it, but I was wonder if anyone has every heard of something like this before?
