How can I prevent homemade tortillas from leaving a burnt ring on cast iron?

Every time I make homemade corn or flour tortillas I get a black burnt ring that’s super hard to scrub away.

I thought high heat was needed for tortillas. I cook on a medium high flame, not lava. Am I cooking too hot? Too long?

I usually add some fat (butter, oil, bacon fat, or crisco) to my tortillas but that doesn’t seem to make the marks any worse than when I make them with no fat.

So I’m just not sure what I could be doing wrong or why I don’t really see this issue mentioned.
