About milk with french toast

Hi! So pretty basic question but i'm curious what milk adds to french toast? Most of the recipes i see are for an egg+milk mixture but often times I don't have milk and just use eggs and I think the french toast come out fine (can't really notice a difference tbh). My gf and best friend both think it's incredibly odd to not use milk. I didn't think much of it but i'm watching Cutthroat Kitchen and they had to make french toast and one of the chefs forgot milk and they're making it out to be as if this is the worst possible thing ever. So i'm just curious like, what is the point of the milk? Is it to help the eggs stay on the bread?
