I guess what I don't see is that RPG's have always been a niche genre - even at their bestselling, they don't match FPS or more casual game sales. But we're starting to see Ubisoft add RPG mechanics to Assassin's Creed and Ghost Recon, and Bethesda with the recent Youngblood mess, and then have you PAY to get around them.
Is this based on market research? Is there a legitimate profit motive to this? Because in all honesty, I think it's just going to push more people away from these games and genres.
