Daily /r/Games Discussion - Thematic Monday: Tactical RPGS - July 29, 2019

This thread is devoted to a single topic, which changes every week, allowing for more focused discussion. We will either rotate through a previous discussion topic or establish special topics for discussion to match the occasion. If you have a topic you'd like to suggest for a future Thematic discussion, please modmail us!

Today's topic is Tactical RPGs: specifically, turn-based strategy games with RPG elements. Tactical RPGs represent a blend of genres, combining the attractive factors of RPGs and Strategy games into a single subgenre. Another name for this subgenre could be "Strategy RPG". Examples include Final Fantasy Tactics, Fire Emblem, and Disgaea.

What specific aspects make a Tactical RPG game? What other games serve as a good example of the Tactical RPG subgenre? How do you think this subgenre could develop further?
