Soda turns sour in my fridge, what's going on?

I've observed some strange behavior coming from my fridge:

  • When I place a bottle of soda inside, it develops a strange sour/bitter aftertaste. This only happens after the bottle has been opened.
  • This does not affect any non-carbonated drinks.
  • Sometimes the behavior goes away for a while, then comes back, which suggests that being paired with something else in the fridge might be causing this to happen.
