Best non-dairy substitute for butter in frosting?

I'm making a birthday cake for a friend next week and one of our other friends is lactose intolerant. The only dairy item in the recipe I've found is butter for the frosting. What's a good non-dairy substitute that would still produce the desired consistency/texture and would I use the same ratio as butter, or would I alter it?
