Chickpeas turning to mush while boiling for hummus?

I soaked dry chickpeas with a bit of baking soda overnight and then drained them and put them in a pot with fresh water, salt and baking soda and about 15-20 min in there are a lot of whole chickpeas along with what looks like disintegrated chickpeas. I’ve done this many times before without this issue. What gives?
