Refrigerator pickled okra is woody/stringy.

I received a jar of refrigerator pickled okra as a gift. I have never had it before so I wanted to try it. The jar was packed on 8/16/25 so it's had 10 days to brine. I was told it needs more time, but you know, patience. I pulled one out and tried it. It was just about inedible. It has nice flavor, but it was so stringy I couldn't eat it. I tried another, smaller one but it was the same. I've done a little research and it tells me that selecting the correct pods to pickle is important. Will added time help? Or did they just pickle the wrong okra?
