Mochi out of regular rice?

You can pound mochi out of regular short grain Asian rice (Calrose for example), right? Has anybody done this, because I can find no reference to it on the web (involves sweet glutinous rice grains or mochiko flour) but I’m pretty sure I’ve done it with just regular rice cooker rice before (did it at a party years ago). As long as it’s not basmati or something like that.

I’m looking for a recipe online because I’m hosting an event myself doing that and I need consistency.

Anybody else done this and know a foolproof method?
