I used an unlined copper pot to make grenadine at work, now one of the cooks is trying to say I ruined the pot by doing so.
It was 2 cups of sugar, 1/2 a cup of pomegranate juice (mixed before adding to the pot), and the lowest heat setting on a gas stove. As soon as the sugar was melted I poured it off into a pitcher to finish it.
Many years of making strawberry and blackberry jam in unlined copper had me thinking it would have been okay, am I mistaken? Did I actually ruin this pot?
I washed it immediately after, there was no metallic taste in the grenadine, then I made 2:1 sugar syrup in it right after and it didnt have any metallic taste. But id love to hear from people more informed than I am. Thank you for any clarity you may be able to provide 🙏
