Alternatives for hominy in pozole

I used to make pozole verde a lot, but in my current location I can't find hominy anywhere. What are appropriate substitutions? I'm leaning towards farro at the moment despite being very different flavor I think the chewiness + nuttiness would go well.

I can use chickpeas if they are by far the best option, but I'd prefer not to.
