What made this recipe oily?

I’ve had this recipe for Baked Shells with Cauliflower and Tallegio in my files for a long time and finally tried it. It sounded so good to me but I was so disappointed-it ended up very oily. For once, I followed a recipe exactly except for cutting it in half. What might have went wrong?
