Trouble seasoning wok

I've got a Joyce Chen wok and have been following the instructions, but its tough to tell if I removed the coating properly. I used a scotch Brite and soapy hot water. The picture is from a few repetitions of canola oil heated over medium heat. I notice on half of the wok there's a pretty dark region, separated by some of the base silver, then a more brown color on the bottom. Is this normal? https://imgur.com/BFkE6IO.jpg
